I don’t think either experiment has actually been carried out. But I don’t think anyone doubts what the results would be. I *think* the paper you’re referencing is about creating the three particle entanglement but not actually doing the whole experiment. But I could be wrong.

Mike, do you know if this Hardy experiment has been carried out?
I get the impression that the GHZ experiment has been carried out by this paper: https://www.arxiv-vanity.com/papers/quant-ph/9810035/. But I haven’t read it to determine if it was fully carried out.
I tried looking up the Hardy state on Wikipedia and found the “Hardy Paradox”,…[Read more]

John pointed out an error on the Hardy State PDF. So if you had a copy of the previous one, get a new download of the one that’s posed up above now (May 16 version). I *hope* it’s correct 🙂

Sorry about that. I just put a note in that they’ll show up later (after the meeting).

Not at all. At least not in the way that you mean. I think it would be really great if you wanted to do that.
Let me know if you want me to set up a meeting (or series of meetings) for it.
But let’s move this discussion to the general forum. It’s applicable far beyond this topic! -

@mike I was wondering how much vector spaces have been covered in the past. In particular the topics of:
-
Linear combinations
Linear independence
Linear subspaces
Linear span
Basis and dimension
Direct (Cartesian) product and direct sum
General definition of a vector space as an Abelian group over a field -

I won’t make this one. I’ll look at the video afterwards.

I’ll revisit the GHZ experiment and how it contradicts common sense.

OK, yeah, good idea. I don’t know how many people are seeing this discussion — but help me remember to say that in the meeting early on.

If by the physics definition you mean what I called the mathematical definition, then if the joint state can’t be factored, the systems are entangled. I really believe it’s as simple as that.
Yes. Just defining it that way so everyone is on the same page is what I was thinking.

Well, for the simple situations we’re talking about non-factorability is enough. There are a number of competing measures of the “degree of entanglement.” I don’t think there is a clearly acknowledged “winner” for more than two entangled systems. But this is a very interesting area of exploration. I’m definitely not up to speed on what’s current.…[Read more]

Just for the more immediate purposes of the talks I was thinking of (1). So when you are writing equations and diagrams on the board we know what you mean right then. I found Tai-Danae Bradley’s explanation of the degree of entanglement measured by the Schmidt rank of a state via SVD really helpful. But that’s just me.
Points 2 and 3 are very int…[Read more]
