I’m postponing the next meeting so I can focus on the website.
I don’t know if I’ll be ready the following Sunday or not, so I’ll post another update when I’m ready to resume.
In the meantime, enjoy your Thanksgiving! -

During Sunday’s talk on Nov 3, I’ll ask participants to use my website again. Please plan to attend in such a way that you can both participate in the video call and interact with my site. For example, you might have a window for each, or you might have a second device for my website.
Thanks.

To document some of the feedback regarding the site:
- The site lacks a certificate.
- The handle for adjusting panel spacing is easy to miss.
- The monotonic restriction for lemmas 2 and 3 can be mistaken as computer sluggishness.
In addition, I know lemma 4 needs to be redone.
I welcome further feedback.

After Stefan’s question about Kepler being excommunicated, I went back to re-read this section from my book on Kepler. I reproduced several pages here for anyone interested. [from Voelkel’s Johannes Kepler and the New Astronomy]
When Kepler arrived in Linz in May 1612, he was emotionally exhausted. The splendid intellectual society in the…[Read more]

Stefan asked a question which I wished I had an answer for about how Kepler determined planetary distances in Cosmographic Mystery. (His 3rd “Law” would relate distances to orbital periods, but he didn’t have that principle yet.) It’s possible that the answer can be gleaned from the outlines for the class I took on this subject. Even if not, some…[Read more]
