I posted my solutions in the meeting above. I was not able to apply the coordinate transformation equations as expected for problems 3 and 4 and would like to review that with the group.

Hi John,
1a has two upper and two lower indices, whereas 1b (phi) has no indices at all
1c is the combination of two tensors using the Einstein summation convention, yes! -

Scott, on the homework:
* does question 2b show Φ with 2 superscripts?
* is question 2b asking about the tensor that results from multiplying those 2 items together? -

Hi All,
For the foreseeable future, starting Sunday, we will use Zoom with the following new link:
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87696074341?pwd=N17bmYVaABjibjrFsyEF3QIZB4Ds4o.1Note this is different from the previous Zoom link because that account needs to stay private to Tina.
Reasons for dropping Google Meet:
* recording (on the free version)…[Read more] -

I’ve prepared a document summarizing the one-form transformations discussed last meeting, and then included the specific transformations and partial derivatives required to transform between 2D Cartesian and Polar coordinates. We can use this as background in the meeting later today to derive and transform gradients between systems. I’ve confirmed…[Read more]
